This guide explains how to add custom data to Insights using Input Tables. This feature can be useful for incorporating ‘Custom Emission Factors’ or other data to re-categorize existing information, or to integrate internal data with the data collected by Measurabl.
This guide provides an example of how to edit and save data in the 'Custom Emission Factors' Input table.
STEPS:
- Open an Editable Workbook with Utility Data
- Change Input Table to view/explore mode
- Publish Changes
- Select time period for custom emission factors
- Add custom emission factors
1. Open an Editable Workbook with Utility Data
First, navigate to Insights, and click ‘Save as’ in the bottom right corner to create a copy of the workbook for editing. Alternatively, you can edit an existing workbook that you own in My Documents.
Set a destination, add a name for the document, and click 'Save'.
2. Change Input Table to view/explore mode
Click the ‘Building Emissions’ tab at the bottom of the screen.
Currently, the ‘Custom Emission Factors’ (Input Table) is displayed as 'Editable in draft.' To make the table editable, click the 'Editable in draft' dropdown and select 'Editable in view/explore mode.'
3. Publish Changes
Click the Publish Changes button in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.
4. Select time period for custom emission factors
Refresh your browser and open your report. The fields in the 'Custom Emission Factors' Input table depend on the 'Performance Period Slicer' located on the Metrics Tab. Select the date according to your requirement. For example, if you select 2024, you’ll need to input values under '2024 Custom Emission Factor,' and similarly for the other years.
5. Add custom emission factors
Click on the 'Building Emissions' tab and navigate to the 'Custom Emission Factors' input table.
Click the 'Edit Data' option with the pencil icon to proceed.
You can enter values in the fields where a pencil icon appears, starting from '2019 Custom Emission Factor' through to '2025 Custom Emission Factor.'
In the 'Custom Emission Factors' input table, two edit options are visible. Double-click on the editable field with the pencil icon, enter the values, and then click the Save button.
Note: Custom emission factors can be added for each building individually, or by using a lookup to apply emission factors based on regional / building-specific criteria. These new factors will be applied to calculate each building's resulting carbon emissions and intensity metrics. If an emission factor is not added for a building, but is applied to others, Measurabl will apply the default emission factors for that building from report-grade sources such as eGrid and IEA.
This guide has covered the process for making changes to the ‘Custom Emission Factors’ (Input Table). You can now edit and save the data as needed.
