The tracking instrument field notes the system used to register renewable energy. Tracking instruments allow the owner to claim the environmental benefits of renewable energy, and they can be sold. You can find more information here. Some example options available in Measurabl:
- “Grid connected low carbon electricity generation owned by company; no instruments created” means that you purchased renewable electricity directly from the grid plain and simple.
- “Non-grid connected low-carbon electricity generation owned by company; no instruments created” means you generated the renewable electricity onsite and aren’t selling any certificates.
- Tracking instruments include RECs (Renewable Energy Certificates) used for renewable energy in the U.S. and I-RECs (international RECs) used for renewable energy generated in other regions.
- Emission-Free Energy Certificates (EFECs) are created to represent the emission-free attributes of generating sources, as defined by PJM, that do not directly emit greenhouse gases from combustion.
