If you are trying to edit a meter at one of your properties, but something is preventing you from saving the changes or the meter profile fields are greyed out, then it is likely due to restricted permissions or editing of the meter. Here are some of the reasons why this may happen:
-
It is a Utility Sync meter.
-
The currency preferences of the meter and your user profile don't match.
-
The meter is an unsupported meter type that was shared from EnergyStar.
-
The meter was not shared with full access from EnergyStar.
- Your user account has read-only permissions.
-
It is a Utility Sync meter.
- Utility Sync meters are automated meters that are created from the utility accounts that you enroll at your property. They are not editable from the 'Utilities' page of a property because they are automated and managed by Measurabl. If you need to change something about the meter, like upload a bill, delete/deactivate a meter or account, or fix an account issue, please refer to the linked articles.
- You can identify a Utility Sync meter in two ways:
- The naming convention is always in this format MSR.(provider)(account number):(meter number).
- The meter profile fields will be greyed out, and there is no 'Add Readings' button.
-
The currency preferences of the meter and your user profile don't match.
- To be able to edit a manual meter or add a manual meter reading to an existing meter, the currency preference that the meter was created in, must match the currency preference that you have set in your user profile. If they don't match, you will not see the 'Add Reading' button and there will be an alert banner. To change your currency preference, see here.
- Note that in the meter profile, the currency will reflect what your user profile preference is set as. This does not necessarily show the currency that the meter was created in.

The meter is an unsupported meter type that was shared from EnergyStar.
- The only meter type that is not fully supported from EnergyStar > Measurabl are waste meters. Although they can be shared and will be visible in Measurabl, since there are extra fields that aren't supported, you won't be able to edit it via Measurabl.
- If you go into a waste meter, and notice that there are reading fields for 'Times Emptied' and 'Average % Full'. You will not be able to save any readings via Measurabl for this meter. You have to log in to your EnergyStar account for this property, and edit it there (the readings will still share over into Measurabl).
-
The meter was not shared with full access from EnergyStar.
- Meters that are shared from EnergyStar with read-only or custom access, will not be editable in Measurabl. You will notice this because the meter profile fields will be greyed out, and the sharing status will appear in the top right corner of the meter profile. To be able to edit the meter in Measurabl, it will need to be shared with full access.
