Because Action Plans are composed of Projects, we’ve made it easy for you to get your existing projects data into Decarb. There are two main ways projects data makes its way into the product:
- Automatic syncing of relevant Projects from Core
- Self-service bulk upload via an Excel template
Syncing of Projects from Core
If you’ve been using Core to track future, planned Projects already then these Projects will automatically sync to your buildings in Decarb if they meet the following criteria:
- Project type is energy related (e.g. no water, waste, or tenant engagement projects)
- Projects that do not have a status of Rejected, Completed, or In Progress
- Projects only created after January 1, 2023
As of now this is only a one-way sync from Core to Decarb so any changes made to these Projects in Decarb will not sync back to Core. However, edits made to synced Projects in Core do continue to sync to the corresponding Decarb Project.
Bulk Upload via Excel Template
The most likely option you’ll choose to add Projects into Decarb will be via bulk upload and we’ve done our best to make it as easy as possible.
Step 1: Download the Excel template
Click here to download the current Decarb Project Upload Template.
Alternatively: from any building’s Action Plan, click the “Add Projects” button, which will take you to the project importer page. In the lower left corner, click the “Download Excel template” button to download the Decarb project template.
Note: this template is a different template than the project template used in Core.
Step 2: Fill out the template
The “Instructions” tab on the Excel workbook contains instructions on how to fill out the template as well as detailed descriptions for each of the columns, including example values and which ones are required to fill out and which are optional.
Add your projects in the first tab as one project per row. You can add multiple projects for multiple buildings all in the same file; no need to create separate files for each building.
Tip: to easily get the Building IDs needed for this template, go to the Portfolio Summary table in Decarb, click the “Columns” button in the upper right corner, add “Building ID” and click Apply, and Export CSV of the table.
Note: The Building IDs used in Decarb are different from the ones you may be used to using for bulk uploads in the Core application. Use the Building IDs used in this table for Project uploads in Decarb.
Step 3: Upload completed template file
When you’ve finished filling out the project template file, it’s time to import your data into Decarb. Navigate back to the project importer view (see Step 1) and click anywhere in the big grey area where it says “What data do you want to upload?” to upload your file.
Click “Confirm” when prompted to select a worksheet (this is the tab where you entered in all of your projects).
From here our importer will highlight any issues found in your data before final upload. Use the issues panel on the right side to navigate to each issue and resolve them in-line. Example validations include confirming the buildings match the IDs in your portfolio and units are of supported types.
Tip: at any time you can choose to only import the “clean” rows and export the rows with issues to fix offline and upload them later.
When there are no further issues you can click the blue “Import” button in the lower right corner. Successfully imported projects will appear in a table, like below. Clicking on an individual project will take you to that corresponding building’s Action Plan.
