What is a Building Performance Standard or BPS? According to the Institute for Market Transformation (IMT):
“A BPS policy is a set of standards designed to reduce carbon emissions in buildings by improving energy, gas and water use, and peak demand. These standards become stricter over time, driving continuous, long-term improvement in the building stock, and complementing building energy codes.”
To support building owners seeking to comply with the rise of BPS across North America, Measurabl users can access BPS Compliance features within the Decarb module in Navigate. These features include:
- Portfolio Compliance Dashboard
- Enhanced Building-level Action Planning
Portfolio Compliance Dashboard
The “Compliance” tab at the portfolio level of Decarb gives a view into your overall compliance risk related to supported BPS within Decarb. Here you can see what fines you are at risk of incurring without any action, with the proposed Action Plans, and the resulting avoided fines. The table below the chart also breaks down the compliance risk by building and BPS, allowing you to prioritize which buildings to focus on first.
Enhanced Building-level Action Planning
For buildings with applicable BPS currently supported in Decarb, users will see the relevant BPS targets automatically visible within the Impact Simulation. Additionally, two new KPIs are visible when there is a BPS target:
- Avoided Fines: the fines avoided if the Projects included in the Action Plan were implemented in the planned years
- Estimated Fines: the fines that would still be incurred even after the planned Projects were implemented
