How can I automate my utility data if my provider has enforced multi-factor authentication (MFA)?
The best response depends on your utility provider.
If your utility provider and your organization allow MFA to be turned off, the best way to continue automation is to remove MFA. For certain organizations, this is not an option, given that IT security policy requires MFA even if the utility provider does not.
If your provider is PG&E, follow the steps here to enable Measurabl to automate data via PG&E’s Share My Data API.
If the provider is not PG&E, and either the utility provider or your organization does not enable turning off MFA, the best path is to follow the utility-specific instructions provided by EPA ENERGY STAR here to push the data to ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager directly via the Portfolio Manager API.
What if MFA cannot be turned off?
If that is not an option, the best option is to download the bill files from the utility provider’s website and upload them into Measurabl via Bill Upload. To make the switch from Connect to Bill Upload:
- Head to the Connect Dashboard
- Click Add Utility Accounts in the upper right-hand side
- Fill in the required fields as normal
- Steps 1 and 2 as usual
- Step 3, be sure to select Upload bills manually then upload the needed bills
- Step 4, be sure to enter the account number exactly as it is currently listed in Measurabl
- Save
Moving forward, you'll upload the bills into Measurabl following the steps here.
